Daniel Neer is a lyricist, librettist, and playwright with interests ranging from vocal chamber music, art song, and choral projects, to opera, music-theater, multimedia, and interdisciplinary works. 

His libretti include And Here We Are by Matthew Welch (Experiments in Opera), Mercury Falling by Chandler Carter (Long Leaf Opera Festival), and two operas in collaboration with Sidney Marquez Boquiren: Independence Eve (American Opera Projects, UrbanArias and Opera Birmingham), and Odes to Earth and Air (Adelphi University Performing Arts Center). 

As a lyricist, Daniel’s collaborations for new vocal chamber music and art song include Brooklyn-Queens Expressway with Robin McClellan (Queens New Music Festival,) Bruce Bailey with Daniel Felsenfeld (Two Sides Sounding), Metamorphosis with Scott Gendel (The Tank Performing Arts Space), Gitchee Gumee with Jonathan David (Bar Harbor Music Festival), Summer 1976 with Kim Sherman (Qube String Quartet), Ellis Island and BABEL with Jennifer Bernard Merkowitz (Battelle Fine Arts Center), Gursky Songs with Alex Burtzos (The National Opera Center), The Good Doctor Windhager by Ronnie Reshef (The Secret Song Quartet), and HAIKU NYC with Ellen Mandel (Brooklyn Historical Society).

Daniel’s poem, Blanket of Stars, resulted in the collaboration of a new choral work with Faye Chiao, which was premiered as part of a Benefit for Syrian Refugees sponsored by the United Nations Chamber Music Society and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). His first play, The Interview, received a world premiere as part of the New Works International Festival for Short Plays at the Richmond Shepherd Theater in New York City.
