Voce Chamber Singers is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Artistic Director, beginning with the 2020–2021 season. 

The Position 

The Artistic Director works with the ensemble to achieve the highest level of excellence in chamber choral performance. Responsibilities include choosing repertoire, designing programming, conducting auditions, selecting accompanists and additional musicians as needed, presenting an annual three-program concert series, and building and sustaining relationships within the local community. The Artistic Director reports directly to and works closely with Voce’s Board of Directors and participates actively in the ensemble’s fundraising activities. 

Candidate Profile 

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in choral conducting and a deep and broad knowledge of chamber choral repertoire; expertise in healthy vocal technique and pedagogy; strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills; an engaging and positive rehearsal technique; an understanding of nonprofit management; and a dedication to Voce’s future growth and success.

About Voce 

Founded in 1989 by Carol Hunter, Voce Chamber Singers is known throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for dynamic programming and musical excellence. The auditioned ensemble, ranging from 35 to 45 members, is comprised of music professionals and experienced singers from across Northern Virginia. Soloists are typically selected from within the ensemble.
Voce performs an annual three-program concert series at churches in Northern Virginia. The ensemble has also performed at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, The National Theatre, DAR Constitution Hall, the Hylton Performing Arts Center, George Mason University’s Center for the Arts, Alden Theatre, CenterStage, the Smithsonian Castle, and the U.S. Botanic Gardens. Voce’s many collaborations include programs with the Capitol Hill Chorale, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, the NOVA Manassas Symphony, the McLean Symphony, the Washington Symphony, and the Manassas Ballet Theatre.
Voce also commissions new choral works to expand the choral repertoire. Past commissions include Sing Me to Heaven by Daniel E. Gawthrop and works by Alice Parker, William Hawley, Matthew Harris, and Stephen Caracciolo.

The deadline for applications is Friday, March 20.

The search committee will contact semifinalist candidates to schedule interviews in late March or early April of 2020. Semifinalists will be asked to submit links to video recordings of themselves conducting in concert. Semifinalists will also be asked to provide proposed concert programs for a Voce 2020-2021 season. 

Finalists will be invited to audition with the ensemble in late April or early May of 2020. At the audition, finalists will work with the singers on two pieces of choral literature, one selected by the search committee and one of the candidate’s own choosing.
