The renowned All Souls Church, Unitarian seeks a dynamic choral director with brilliant keyboard skills and a vibrant multiracial, multicultural choral repertoire to accompany and conduct the skilled, 40-voice All Souls Choir on selected Sunday mornings. Fluency is essential in Gospel, Broadway, Jazz, Pop and Classical styles.
Duration:11 month Interim Contract.
September 15, 2010 – August 15, 2011
The position is open until filled. The church seeks to fill this position immediately.
Schedule: Every Thursday night Sept-June 2010
3 Sundays each month during 4-week months
4 Sundays each month during 5-week months
2 services per Sunday appearance.
The director will have one Sunday each month off.
Salary: $10-$15,000 depending on duties and qualifications.
The director will be fully supported in administrative matters by a staff librarian and the Music Director
Duties
1. Direct and accompany the 40 voice All Souls Choir (including four professional section leaders) on Thursday evenings September 16, 2010 –June 16, 2011.
2. Direct the All Souls Choir on Scheduled Sunday mornings September 19, 2010 – June 19, 2011, and on Christmas Eve. The Choir will sing 2 or 3 Sundays each month, depending on the Worship Schedule
3. Choose and accompany four professional section leaders in various solos and duets throughout the year.
4. Accompany Provide hymn support all Sundays each month except one.
5. Select anthems and hymns in collaboration with Worship Planning Team
6. Attend regular worship planning meetings throughout the year.
7. Provide piano accompaniment for funerals and weddings as directed by the Music Director
8. In collaboration with the Music Director and Music staff, plan, conduct, and accompany one major concert in the spring of the year comprised of piano works, hymns and anthems.
9. Maintain and minister to the morale and communal life of the All Souls Choir, by building lay leadership and creating opportunities for members connect with one another in a mutually supportive environment.
10. Maintain the musical excellence of the choir, and the multiracial, multicultural diversity of the choir’s repertoire.
While the choir director will be supervised by the Music Director,
there is a high degree of autonomy associated with this professional position.

POSITION: Adult Choir Director
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Music
PURPOSE: To direct the congregation's adult choir in providing choral music in
support of the church's worship life.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Select appropriate choral music (classical and contemporary) in consultation
with the music director to support the congregation's worship life.
2. Conduct 30 weekly rehearsals of the adult choir between September and May.
3. Work with musical accompanist(s) in rehearsals and Sunday performances.
4. Conduct the choir in approximately 30 Sunday and special services between
September and May.
5. Work with the music director to recruit choir members.
6. Train choir in choral techniques, appreciation of church music, and leadership
and participation in worship.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE
1. Experience in choral directing, preferably in a Lutheran church.
2. Minimum of an undergraduate degree, with a major or emphasis in music.
3. Familiarity with the liturgy and worship of the Lutheran church.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills.
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE
• Skills at organ or keyboard and piano.
ASUMPTIONS REGARDING SCOPE OF WORK
• 1.5 hours per week in planning
• 2 hours per week in rehearsal
• 1.5 hours per week in worship
• The above covers a period of 30 weeks between September and May

Christ Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, Virginia is seeking the services of a part-time Music Director/Accompanist. CPC has a rich musical talent base within our congregation including vocalist and instrumentalist. All choirs are strongly committed to the musical ministry of the church and meet regularly.
Skills in directing adult/children vocal, and handbell choirs as well as playing piano and/or organ for congregational singing are required. This position is intended to be a generalist position that works in concert with the Pastor to formulate and lead a vital and awe inspiring worship experience.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Leading weeknight practices for the adult vocal and handbell choirs.
- Sunday morning accompaniment of congregational singing and of the choir’s musical offerings on piano/organ.
- Leadership of the Children’s Choir which meets between services and offers music during worship on an occasional basis.
- Staff meetings with the Pastor to plan and implement a worshipful music program.
- Selection and coordination of guest musicians and vocalist.
- Music program participation development including ensembles.
Estimated Hours: This is a part-time position taking an average of 15-20 hours weekly.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and education in accordance with the Presbyterian Association of Musicians guidelines.
