We are pleased to announce the launch of a new DC-based chamber choir
dedicated to the idea that all music is full of energy and drama, and
should be performed as such. Under the musical direction of Scott
Dettra, Organist of Washington National Cathedral, the group will
place the expression of text at the center of musical dialogue, and
vividly convey the imagery, energy, and emotion at the core of each
work it performs.

We are looking for 20 enthusiastic singers willing to take risks in
their joint rediscovery of repertoire from the sixteenth to twentieth
centuries. Beauty of voice is important, but not more than the
ability to convincingly express all shades of human expression, from
fiery passion to reflective devotion. In addition, stylistic
expertise, listening ability, excellent sight-reading and intonation,
vibrato control, and foreign language ability are all highly sought.

Please contact Thierry van Bastelaer at thierryvanbast@yahoo.com for
more information and to schedule an audition. Please include a list
of choral/solo experience, and a few sentences as to why you are
interested in joining the group.

DavidSchola Terra Mariae
Chant ensembles-in-residence
Saint Bernadette Church
Silver Spring, Maryland
Archdiocese of Maryland

Schola Terra Mariae welcomes men and women interested in singing Gregorian chant and other Medieval music in the Catholic liturgy to contact use about our Montgomery County-based chant ensembles. Our membership happily and productively combines professional musicians and amateur singers of widely varying experience. As implied by the name schola, all members consider themselves students devoted to learning about and bringing to life the profound beauty of this venerable liturgical song. We are united in our love for this the Church's own, most authentic music and in our desire to live out the Vatican II directive that chant be given 'pride of place' in the liturgy. We rehearse weekly and sing at least once each month at both the Saturday Vigil Mass (5:00) and early Sunday Mass (7:30) at Saint Bernadette's. We sing at other liturgies, including those of other parishes, by invitation. A men's ensemble currently exists and a women's ensemble in now being formed. For more information, please contact the Magister Chori (choirmaster), Dr. Daniel Bennett Page, at DPage@UBalt.edu .
