We are pleased to announce the launch of a new DC-based chamber choir
dedicated to the idea that all music is full of energy and drama, and
should be performed as such. Under the musical direction of Scott
Dettra, Organist of Washington National Cathedral, the group will
place the expression of text at the center of musical dialogue, and
vividly convey the imagery, energy, and emotion at the core of each
work it performs.

We are looking for 20 enthusiastic singers willing to take risks in
their joint rediscovery of repertoire from the sixteenth to twentieth
centuries. Beauty of voice is important, but not more than the
ability to convincingly express all shades of human expression, from
fiery passion to reflective devotion. In addition, stylistic
expertise, listening ability, excellent sight-reading and intonation,
vibrato control, and foreign language ability are all highly sought.

Please contact Thierry van Bastelaer at thierryvanbast@yahoo.com for
more information and to schedule an audition. Please include a list
of choral/solo experience, and a few sentences as to why you are
interested in joining the group.

DavidSchola Terra Mariae
Chant ensembles-in-residence
Saint Bernadette Church
Silver Spring, Maryland
Archdiocese of Maryland

Schola Terra Mariae welcomes men and women interested in singing Gregorian chant and other Medieval music in the Catholic liturgy to contact use about our Montgomery County-based chant ensembles. Our membership happily and productively combines professional musicians and amateur singers of widely varying experience. As implied by the name schola, all members consider themselves students devoted to learning about and bringing to life the profound beauty of this venerable liturgical song. We are united in our love for this the Church's own, most authentic music and in our desire to live out the Vatican II directive that chant be given 'pride of place' in the liturgy. We rehearse weekly and sing at least once each month at both the Saturday Vigil Mass (5:00) and early Sunday Mass (7:30) at Saint Bernadette's. We sing at other liturgies, including those of other parishes, by invitation. A men's ensemble currently exists and a women's ensemble in now being formed. For more information, please contact the Magister Chori (choirmaster), Dr. Daniel Bennett Page, at DPage@UBalt.edu .

Greetings Colleagues,

This year marks my third year as course manager for the Washington DC Advanced Course for Trebles. As many of you have already experienced, it takes an advanced core of alto, tenor and bass singers to support these talented treble voices. This year, the course is filled to capacity with 27 trebles participating from across the country. I am grateful to the music staff at the Washington National Cathedral, St. Albans School and St. Alban's Church for their hospitality to us each year. This year the course is the choir in residence a the cathedral for the week. To the best RSCM choristers from across the country we host the best choirmasters. This year is no exception with Frank Boles coming from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis.

Won't you consider joining Frank and me this year for another outstanding course as a supporting singer? This course is, to many, the jewel of the RSCM training course summer offerings. We are blessed to host it here in the national capital. Please respond early to insure your space. If you reply to this message and do not receive a response from me, please phone me at the number listed below. E-mail server mishaps do occur here at St. Paul's and I want to be certain that communicate with each one of you in a timely, efficient manner. Each year I turn away countless people because these vacancies fill early. All I ask is that you commit to the entire schedule and learn the music completely in advance of the rehearsals. The advanced nature of the week requires that singers learn the parts before meeting with the music director. Reply with your mailing address so that I can send a music packet your way along with other contact information so that I may quickly and easily reach you. I have attached the adult singer schedule for your convenience. Please feel free to forward this message to any who may be interested. I look forward to hearing from you, Douglas A. Beck, Organist-Choirmaster St. Paul's Episcopal Church 228 S Pitt St Alexandria VA 22314 (703)549-3312 ext. 17 or douglas@stpaulsepis.com.

I am a lyric-coloratura soprano and hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with a concentration in Voice from Shenandoah University. My résumé may be downloaded here.

I seek an experienced voice teacher with a Master's or Doctoral Degree in Vocal performance and/or vocal pedagogy that could help me develop the range and technical skills needed to sing the Italian Bel Canto repertoire (i.e the Verdi , Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini roles). and also help me expand my oratorio repertoire.

I have been sight impaired since birth and am considered legally blind by the state of Virginia so do not hold a driver's license. I live in the Leesburg area in Loudoun County and seek a voice teacher willing to teach in my home. Gas and travel expenses may be included in the fee per lesson.

Prospective teachers may reach me at home; (703) 669-2295 or cell; (703) 447-6771.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mia Fleming

The choir at Church of the Reformation is organizing its second tour to Europe.
Following a very successful and highly enjoyable tour to London, Paris and
Geneva in May, 2006, the choir is planning another 10 day trip, this time to
Slovakia, The Czech Republic and Germany from Oct. 3 to Oct. 13 or 14th, 2008.

Flying out of Dulles Airport on Friday afternoon, we'll arrive in Vienna
Saturday morning. After a short bus tour of Vienna, we'll proceed to Bratislava,
Slovakia, where the choir will remain until Tuesday morning, leaving ample time
for sight-singing and giving their first concert. Then on to Prague, where the
choir will be performing Wednesday evening. We leave Prague and head to Leipzig
to visit the Thomaskirche, where Johann Sebastian Bach was Kappellmeister for
many years. Then on to Wittenberg, Germany, where the choir will give a concert
at the historic Castle Church, where Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the
door. Participants will have the option of prolonging for an extra day in Berlin before returning to Dulles.

We're recruiting choral singers of all voice parts. A six-week rehearsal period
will begin at Church of the Reformation toward the end of August, culminating in
a "Bon Voyage" recital the last weekend of September. There will be space
available for non-singing tour participants, spouses and friends, but priority
is given to singers.

The total cost of the trip for double occupancy including all airfare, hotels
and ground transportation is $2,300.00. Single-occupancy accommodations are
available for $3,000.00.

I'm attaching a flier with all the important information. Please visit our web
page at www.reformationchoir.org for the most updated information.

It would be a pleasure to have you on board for this choral experience. Please
feel free to forward all of this information to anyone who might be interested.

Thanks and all the best,
